Don’t believe me?  The Houston Chamber of Commerce says:  “Grow beards, wear big hats, boots and spurs. Let’s put a little touch of the Wild West into this thing.” I love this city

Every February 25th kids, adults and everyone in between dons their pearl button down shirts, cowboy boots and anything else that vaguely resembles Western wear – the effect is awesome.  People watching in the grocery store has never been more fun.

You can check out Ella’s Go Texan Day garb below and note the creative license we took in it.  We were going for more of an electric cowgirl concept, matching hot pink leopard leggings, flirty denim skirt, ruffle top and hot pink bandana – with punk rock motorcycle boots of course.  Good times in a great state.

If you are in the mood to shop for a particular beautiful baby girl (mine or your own), here are a few must-drool-over spots to check out:

• Pacifier – A really cool, funky kiddo boutique with baby clothing, nursery decor and other short person goodies.  My faves, definitely the Koi tee and of course the long-adored Candeloo lamps.
• Livie and Lucia – Some of the cutest little leather kiddo shoes – check out the happy veggie boots.  I smile just thinking about Ella clomping around in them.
• Kinchi clothing – A Dutch lady with a knack for creating beautiful original kid clothes from neat vintage fabrics and prints.  I’m especially in complete love with this wrap dress and this retro frock.  Not only are they lovely, but they are made to be worn for many, many months which I’m learning is a super big deal in kiddo clothing.

We heart Threadless.  With Threadless in our closet, we simply are not (threadless that is).

That is why it is exciting that they are now selling Threadless Onesies for the munchkin.  Okay okay, so they only have one design currently available for the Ella – but it’s a start and it’s really cute.

My fave – this sweet peacock coat.

Their handmade baby tees are precious (and inspire me to make my own), hilarious tutus for the ballerina within and even really great handknit and lovable toys.  Great site!!

Oh – and maybe it has a little to do with wearing cool raglan tees.  Maybe like these Inky Dink numbers?  FUN!!

Now we just need to find some infant Chuck Taylors and we’ll be good to go.

A and I already find this to be an issue.  Who knew that it would be so tough to refuse to settle for generic/blah pastel plaid prints and Winnie the Pooh??  Bring on the rockstar onesies, indie rock kids’ albums and roller derby bedsheets

Chances are our war on boring baby stuff is going to mean a lot of homemade creativity (like buying plain onesies and rocking them up with Sublime Stitching patterns). But hey!  Necessity is the mommy of invention and we’re not a family to complain about some new crafty projects.

Cute gift sets come in a variety of fun packaging (suitcases, hat boxes, cowboy hats, etc.) and all of their items have funky retro patterns and images that make for a hip-looking kiddo.

My favorite – the funky ‘Lola You’re Such a Flygirl’ Astronaut girl design.  Silly and space-y with a kitschy feel.

Their homewares are nifty too, especially if you’re into coordinating your dish towels with your child’s wardrobe.
